My Projected Starter - Senior Chase Garbers
I would suspect Chase Garbers would maintain the hold on the starting job. He’s had the best command of the offense and repertoire with the skill position players during Fall Camp. Garbers has looked more comfortable with the offense and knows where to go with the ball against certain looks and play calls. The offense will go as he goes, with his willingness to throw deep being a key part of unlocking the potential of this offense. Chase has more tools to play with this season with the continuity of some wide receivers, and the addition of some talented freshmen at both the wide receiver and tight end spots. He’s got a variety of arm angles he is comfortable throwing at and has become more comfortable sitting in the pocket waiting for his plays to develop a bit further. That might be an effect of the offensive line improving in their pass protection as well, but Chase has looked less inclined to take off from the pocket unless absolutely necessary. At the time of writing this post, a backup QB has not been named though I expect it to be either Ryan Glover or Zach Johnson.
This is probably the one position that won’t be causing any surprises and all Ca fans hope will be a spot that takes the offense to the next gear in Musgrave’s system.
Remigio, in a recent interview, said CG is more willing to throw 50/50 balls and trust his receivers to win. Frankly, this is the best "news" on CG all year given that it comes from an experienced player.
