Andrej Stojaković has Cal in mix with North Carolina, Kentucky, Michigan
There is a significant amount of interest in the Stanford transfer but there's a lot of work to be done to secure his commitment.
After his visit to Cal this weekend, here’s an update on Andrej Stojaković via Jeff Borzello of ESPN.
The latest on Stanford transfer Andrej Stojakovic, according to sources. Took a visit to Cal last weekend and the Bears are very much in the mix. North Carolina and Kentucky are also heavily involved, as is Michigan. Likely to take another visit this weekend, nothing finalized. Others in pursuit include Creighton, Washington, USC and Louisville.
The good news is that Cal seems to be very much in the mix!
The bad news is that the competition is a host of deep-pocketed competitors. The North Carolina Tar Heels, Kentucky Wildcats and Michigan Wolverines will all be able to certainly offer more, and a near guarantee of playing.
What Mark Madsen can offer Stojaković that those other programs can’t is the ability to grow into a number one option that can help him and grow and develop into an NBA talent, which might be appealing to him and his father, NBA legend Peja Stojaković (who competed with Madsen plenty in the 2000s). Madsen can point to the one-year evolution of Jaylon Tyson from solid collegiate wing to prospective first round NBA draft pick.
Even though his freshman season was relatively quiet (7.8 points, 3.4 rebounds, 41-33-53 shooting splits), with his 6-7, 190 frame, Stojaković would have the most upside of any talent in the portal if he ended up picking Cal. It’s something to watch out for as he decides his future in the coming weeks.
Other Cal recruiting news
Forward Brody Kozlowski, who put Cal in his top 5, ended up picking BYU.
Air Force transfer Rytis Petraitis visited Cal this past weekend while Stojaković was there.
Madsen coaching Peja Stojaković‘s son seems too poetic not to be a thing. I remember that rivalry. Those were the glory days.
Maybe dad could throw in some money and help him make the decision.Because he would develop better at Calvin. He would at a big university like michigan and other schools with deep pockets and big time recruits already there.
