Cal adds Westlake's 4* WR Charles Davis to the 2027 Class
HC Lupoi slowly stacks a top tier recruiting class while staying in California
The addition of Charles Davis, long time USC and UCLA target, is another sign that Cal under HC Lupoi as a whole is becoming a threat in prep recruiting. Something worth noting is that Davis would be the 3rd consensus 4* recruit in the class, but the only 4* WR (Bowens is a 4* DE, Baker 4* S) and in a class of 6. This tells me 2 things: the recruiting acumen is either evenly distributed across the coaching staff or, more likely, it is centralized in the sole orbit that is Tosh Lupoi.
Fun fact, he is the younger brother of current Cal DB Niles Davis!
I think I know where my bet is at. Also it doesn’t hurt that Cal’s NIL environment is doing quite well.
As mentioned before Davis is a 4* per 247 and Rivals/On3 with offers to match the opulence of the ranking. UCLA, USC, Oregon, SMU, Georgia, Miami, Oklahoma, Arizona, and Arizona State all biding for his services.
Per 247 he competes in track and field in 100 meter, 200 meter, and the long jump:
-Opened 11th-grade track season up with a 10.86 (1.7) effort in the 100-meter dash and 22.2 (-0.7) effort in the 200-meter dash.
-Posted a 21-2 mark in the long jump as a 10th grader.
On film he projects to be the prototypical outside receiver with good hands to survive contact, blocking experience from being lined up as a TE in HS, good long speed for a player of this size, and good ball tracking skills with the ball in the air.
Welcome to Cal young man!
