Cal Lands Commitment From Four-Star Safety Myles Baker
The Tosh Lupoi effect is in full drive.
The California Golden Bears have had trouble landing four-star prospects in past seasons. In two months, Tosh Lupoi has landed two.
Chatsworth (Ca.) Sierra Canyon athlete Myles Baker put the hat on for the California Golden Bears this morning. Baker ended up picking Cal over Alabama, LSU, Oregon and Stanford.
Standing at 6-1, 185, Baker is ranked as a consensus four-star prospect by 247Sports Composite, rated as both a top-25 safety and top-25 California prospect.
The offer list also includes Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Michigan, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Tennessee Texas, Texas A&M, Notre Dame and dozens more. The relationship with Tosh Lupoi and his staff, established from his time with the Ducks, was a major factor. Greg Biggins of On3 has more:
“There was so much intent and meaning to everything he said. He’s very intentional about everything he’s doing. He’s extremely motivated to build a winner at Cal and I really think he can do it and I’m excited to be a part of that.”
In addition to Lupoi, Baker had a connection with new safeties coach Connor Boyd.
“I knew coach Boyd at Oregon and also have a good relationship with Michael Hutchings, the DC as well,” Baker said. “Coach Hutch is who offered me and I’m super comfortable around both of them along with coach (Da’Von) Brown, the corners coach.
Baker joins edge Troy Bowens as the second four-star Cal commit, and is the fifth commit of the 2027 class, along with Giovanni Hodge, Blake Gunter, and Gunnar Perry. His most recent Hudl tape is below.
And the recruiting news just doesn’t stop. There will always be more to come in the Tosh Lupoi era of Cal football.
