In a surprising turn of events, Jack Plummer entered the transfer portal amidst the chaos of national signing day. Plummer was in his 5th year of eligibility this season for the Bears, so it is entirely possible that this involved an issue regarding graduate programs (that could have been completed this past season).
Plummer threw for 3,095 yards and 21 passing touchdowns this season while throwing 9 interceptions, and even throwing in a rushing touchdown when Cal visited Notre Dame. Plummer was battered behind an inconsistent offensive line, resulting in some nagging injuries throughout the middle portion of the season. Former Purdue head coach Jeff Brohm recently moved over to Lousiville, so this could be a spot to monitor.
Jack gave it his all throughout his year as a Golden Bear and its imperative we recognize that effort regardless of the results. We thank Jack for representing the blue and gold well on and off the field and wish him the best of luck in his football career.
Jack won a Big Game so he's okay in my book and I wish him well.
Disagree that this was surprising, TD. Either Plummer or Kai had to hit the portal, and Plummer makes more sense for his possible future. Our former OC ran a classic pro style offense which plays to Plummer's strengths. An up-tempo spread system does not. Moreover, he needs to be on a team that has a good chance to go bowling so he gets as much TV time as he can. (And this doesn't even touch on Cal's matador-blocking OL.)
Plummer is a gamer and we all wish him well.
