Cal quarterback Kai Millner enters the transfer portal
Cal could be without their top two signal-callers for 2022.
At this time, Cal doesn’t really have any idea who their starting quarterback will be in 2023.
First, Jack Plummer entered the transfer portal yesterday.
Now, Kai Millner has done so as well.
A redshirt freshman, Millner saw some action at the end of a few Cal games this year. He threw two touchdowns against Oregon to make the final result a bit more respectful. He finishes his first two seasons at Cal completing 9 of 15 passes for 121 yards and two touchdowns.
But he could not dislodge Plummer as the starting quarterback this season. Now he will dip into the portal and see what else is out there.
This is likely part of the transition we’d all expect with a new offensive coordinator in Jake Spavital. The remaining quarterbacks on roster are freshman Fernando Mendoza and redshirt junior Zach Johnson, neither of whom have played a snap.
You’d expect the Bears to land a quarterback in the transfer portal ASAP. There are numerous candidates, but Cal will have to hurry. Our skill players will want to know who’s getting them the football this spring.
Wilcox' refusal to give Millner more snaps last season when it was already obvious Cal was headed for a bad losing season is further proof of his incompetence as a head coach. I am guessing he was thinking if he could just secure a Big Game win he could stick around at Cal as long as he wanted. Well, I guess that's true. There is an old saying that people get they government they deserve. Cal fans are getting the Wilcox they deserve.
Y'all wanted change, well you're getting change. And not at the margins.
