The California Golden Bears (4-6, 3-4 Pac-12) averaged 10.1 yards per play Saturday night, as they rolled to a 41-11 victory over the Stanford Cardinal (3-8, 2-7 Pac-12).
Despite the slow start to the 124th Big Game, California would eventually put up more than 636 yards of offense, including 352 rushing. The Golden Bears put six running backs to work with two contributing scores: Marcel Dancy put two touchdowns on the board while fourth-string running back Chris Street added another in the fourth quarter.
California quarterback Chase Garbers ended the night with 246 yards passing for two touchdowns and one interception and 59 yards carrying the rock.
The Golden Bears reclaim the Stanford Axe.
Great win for Cal, and I can appreciate the joy of not just beating Stanford, but beating them soundly. Saw that the week before in Corvallis too, ending with a similar crowd on the field celebration. Still, its hard to fully grasp Stanford in the Shaw era being this unsound, even when its inexperienced backups pressed into action in some cases. The ghost of Buddy Teevens must have arisen somewhere in the shadows of Palo Alto.
Great game. And I correctly predicted the long strike to Trevon Clark for a TD in the subscriber pre-game prediction thread...
