i'll take the garbage time score

Rick Chen's avatar

what the heck was that throw

abqbear's avatar

Uncharacteristic for Fernando this season. Hopefully that was an aberration.

OldSoCalBear's avatar

eh he's good for one of those every week. Had a couple of those where the d-back dropped it too

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

He still doesn’t see the field incredibly well.

HelloBowlesHall's avatar

He came back from a bad throw last week, let’s hope the defense bails him out.

freespeechlover's avatar

I don't know but that penalty cost.

TD_24's avatar

last time they were on this field, they played the best comprehensive half of football against Oregon State

this time they are playing the worst comprehensive half of football against Syracuse

Dominick Damiani's avatar

CAL's Women Soccer team just won their first round game for the NCAA tournament

2-1 in double Overtime.. Go Bears

Something to cheer about today

OldSoCalBear's avatar

over a ranked team too

Brad (aka, RibI)'s avatar

I'm pretty sad about this game.

abqbear's avatar

Same.

Karma's avatar

We cannot be 3 and out. Need long drive to touchdown!!🔥🔥🔥

Juice's avatar

In hindsight I would’ve preferred a 3 and out

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

Agreed. Nice drive here!

TD_24's avatar

Vatikani benched, Reimer in

Rugbear's avatar

All prevent defense does is prevents you from stopping a play. How are 3 defensive linemen going to put pressure on McCord? And the guy can throw the ball if he has time. Really stupid play call IMHO.

Juice's avatar

Well the offense has been putrid, but on the bright side the defense has only been bad

HelloBowlesHall's avatar

Funny but honestly after the s**t sandwiches they've been getting handed it’s honestly not bad.

Rick Chen's avatar

very athletic pick

freespeechlover's avatar

Yeah, that was impressive.

Rick Chen's avatar

The Syracuse fans in attendance outnumber the folks in the Cal student section.

CalGal2004's avatar

Yep. Sections U-TT-T are a bit too orange. A few orange visitors in the southwest corner.

Dominick Damiani's avatar

I mentioned that several weeks ago from the last home game. The student body has no interest unless the team is a winner or a big game/opponent like Miami

HelloBowlesHall's avatar

It’s filling in a bit, but ya definitely atm

Rugbear's avatar

Ott!!

Rugbear's avatar

Looking fugly so far...O-line is a problem.

OldSoCalBear's avatar

hurts to think how good we'd be with solid O-line play

Rugbear's avatar

I look at our protection schemes and they are just bad.

abqbear's avatar

Offense needs to show some life on this drive.

TezCalipoca's avatar

#@$%@#%%$^^$

TezCalipoca's avatar

We need to go Miami on them. Lets go Bears!

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

Go tempo, all passes

Rugbear's avatar

Jett! We needed that.

GoldenHairs's avatar

so where do I go to bet on syracuse winning

Old Bear 71's avatar

Clean up the penalties!

Rugbear's avatar

What is up with our defense? Why are the play calls coming in so late?

sacman701's avatar

Last week we had a double-digit win that wasn't. This week, a 1-score loss that wasn't.

Juice's avatar

Lmfao imagine being down 2 TDs with 2 minutes left and casually playing out of the huddle only to get sacked anyway. Absolute disaster.

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

Such a poorly coached ballclub.

Juice's avatar

Wilcox literally hasn’t improved the program at all in almost 10 years. Same exact tier of shit sandwich he inherited

abqbear's avatar

I'd argue it's worse. The first couple years at least had the suffocating defense

Rugbear's avatar

Like Wilcox, Sirmon is a man of great character, but he is entirely predictable. His defense is always about probable statistical outcome. You know in any situation what he is going to do, even if he dials up different coverages. So you change it up. Not hard to call plays against that.

Juice's avatar

I guess he sucks a little more agreeably than Dykes but that’s about it

mrjpark's avatar

Not even. Dykes at least gave us hope that we could score consistently.

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

Agreed.

Wilcox is way worse imo.

Juice's avatar

I mean personality-wise, I don’t like anything about him whatsoever from a pure football perspective but he does seem like a nice enough guy

OldSoCalBear's avatar

so many baffling decisions in this game

Rugbear's avatar

Are you surprised? You know, I was not impressed with Oregon when they hired Lanning, but hell, he calls a flipping great game.

OldSoCalBear's avatar

seems like it's getting worse, maybe desperation setting in

Rugbear's avatar

We need to score on every drive and shut them down. Anyone wanna bet that doesn't happen? ;-)

HelloBowlesHall's avatar

Already didn’t happen

abqbear's avatar

Easily worst half this season...and we had that epic collapse against Miami

concernedparent's avatar

That was at least against a decent team...

sacman701's avatar

That entire half was 100% trash.

Brad (aka, RibI)'s avatar

hey, we made a play

Dominick Damiani's avatar

Those TO looks like how Cal would use them.

Old Bear 71's avatar

Except theirs end up w a 1st

GlueAndBold's avatar

Cuse burning through TOs like they're us

Rugbear's avatar

We look like we are still asleep...

GlueAndBold's avatar

How little confidence in your defense do you have to have to decline 3rd and 24?

Rugbear's avatar

It's interesting to me when we have one of the top RB's in the country that our OL Coach/OC didn't recruit more quality O-linemen in the portal. I actually don't think our talent is that bad on the O-line but the technique (which is all about coaching) and blocking schemes really suck.

GoldenHairs's avatar

D continues to suck without uluave

KJ1980's avatar

This game makes a train wreck seem upbeat. What a disaster. But I am staying to the end.

Rugbear's avatar

Two defensive stops and two TD drives and we are back in this...that's a big ask...

abqbear's avatar

Let's see if the team has some fire. The opening TD was critical to any chance of a comeback.

Rick Chen's avatar

Announced attendance: 33,493

CalGal2004's avatar

LOL. Not.

Many comps here today. Player families on the west side.

Rick Chen's avatar

Syracuse has 299 yards in the first half

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

This is why Cal -10 was insanity. Syracuse is top-25 in total O and can move the football on anyone.

Maestro's avatar

That's a comment that you can't exactly like.

Rugbear's avatar

Hard to watch this. Game plan sucks. Play calling sucks. Execution sucks. Not what you expect from a P4 program. If CAL wants to win they need a budget to bring in a top coach and assistants, and a coach who can attract talent. This is really painful to watch. And if we lose we are going to hear the same statements from the coaches in interviews: "we have to be more consistent an we need to do a better job of coaching." We are way past that.

Rugbear's avatar

He DID put on a CAL tie!

Bowlesman 80's avatar

Now, there you go.

TezCalipoca's avatar

lets offer him, and he only has to coach home games!

Karma's avatar

I am worrying defense. Offense time is too short..

Rick Chen's avatar

Cal has 29 yards in the first quarter

abqbear's avatar

And like 3 minutes of possession

Juice's avatar

And as many picks as first downs

Rick Chen's avatar

Syracuse won the toss and will receive

sacman701's avatar

We have one win each in the SEC, Pac-12, Mountain West, and ACC.

Archon79's avatar

We found out what the team looks like when Mendoza isn’t on point and its not good.

Rugbear's avatar

Jeez, it's not about Mendoza! It's about giving him the time to throw the ball. It's about designing plays to get receivers open. Our O-line and OC let us down today. Mendoza is fine.

HelloBowlesHall's avatar

Mendoza has been able to paper over the line issues somewhat by getting it out so fast. When he’s off then…this…

Mark Sigmon's avatar

Might also be a matter of DB's playing very close knowing that Mendoza will never get enough time to throw it deep.

Old Bear 71's avatar

Totally exposed after a 3-0 start.

sacman701's avatar

The defense in the first half was also shambolic.

HelloBowlesHall's avatar

He’s bailed us out all year on offense. As he goes the offense goes.

Bowlesman 80's avatar

There's the old Jaydn!

Old Bear 71's avatar

Still not back to previous top end speed. But I like what he did shoes kn that run

coolingfan's avatar

"Wilcox has been really challenging this offensive line to play better ... that's a sack."

Bob Dole's avatar

I wonder if this week we’ll get another bullshit article about how we still need need to support a Wilcox led program.
