Trond out with an illness in case people didn't know

WilderThanGene's avatar

Hopefully he didn't catch Mendoza's cold

Bowlesman 80's avatar

Treason loves company.

Might have been talked into, much like Mr. Hunter.

TD_24's avatar

its a legit one, doesn't change what he may do after the year but he wasn't in any shape to go

Bowlesman 80's avatar

Good to know.

We're a traumatized fan base, as you know.

WilderThanGene's avatar

I believe Trond's dad is an active Cal fan on the socials, so hopefully that means something

TD_24's avatar

that made me chuckle but this is indeed legit

TD_24's avatar

damn that was a good fake punt

G.i.Jones's avatar

I’m not optimistic that we come away with a W today but we are here in LA to support the team and have some fun! Go Bears!

The trip down south was already awesome, we met @wokemobfootball at a supercharger on the way down. What a fortunate encounter. She is awesome!

Spazzard's avatar

I just had the realization why I’m so frustrated, I hate that I care so much about this team…

TD_24's avatar

using the working screen allotment for the season tonight

TD_24's avatar

Cal ST not allowed to be too productive

GlueAndBold's avatar

Wilcox is right, outside of the two busted plays the defense has played quite well. Offense needs to do a lot better.

GlueAndBold's avatar

Wow, real nice trick play. Hurts but you gotta admire it.

JBear's avatar

I find flying down here to watch a game the the coaches don’t even seem to care about winning about the last straw

Rugbear's avatar

I would’ve liked to have seen a replay of that fumble recovery. From what I saw, it looked like he didn’t have possession until he was out of bounds.

WilderThanGene's avatar

Ott last year takes that to the house

coolingfan's avatar

This school deserves a better coach

GoldenSD81's avatar

The players, alumni and fans deserve a better coach.

Old Bear 71's avatar

Good night friends

GoldenSD81's avatar

Hello darkness my old friend…

Clifford Fewel's avatar

Always good to read your stuff.

Gobears512's avatar

Ugh.. I'm checking out. Enjoyed the season with you all. Kids need to go to bed and I need to pound my head into a nice soft brick wall.

Clifford Fewel's avatar

Night. We ll wake you if they run Ott.

Ak_A_bear's avatar

For years now, inside the 5 like the the dog passing peach pits.

Gobears512's avatar

I know we cannot have nice things so I won't get my hopes up. But I like that we've actually scored a touchdown. I'm gonna just consider this first quarter a win and leave it there.

Clifford Fewel's avatar

That nice things line always cracks me up.

Gobears512's avatar

I feel like as Cal fans - it's kind of known quantity. Cal sports (especially football) is just pain with occasional and irrational hope?

Clifford Fewel's avatar

So true. My late friend and Cal alum Walter Matkowsky would frequently say, “Cal just doesn’t have the horses.”

Calbears93's avatar

Great play! WTF was that all year

OC Bear's avatar

great play design, The WR's all ran away from teh play (so they didnt; have to block). and the OL pulled to make some holes.

bluehenbear's avatar

There's the Jayden we know and love

OldSoCalBear's avatar

defense playing with some energy, I like it

OldSoCalBear's avatar

something's wrong when the fans care more about winning than the coaches

KJ1980's avatar

We can win. Go Bears! Who needs that Nando guy

Dominick Damiani's avatar

We do!!!! Unless they get a replacement better than him I think next year will be exactly the same. Especially, if more people leave in the portal.

Gobears512's avatar

Players matter for sure, but man, coaching at this level is key. I have decided to have irrational and impractical optimism that a new offensive coordinator is just what we needed...sigh...

Brad (aka, RibI)'s avatar

is there a portal for fans?

bearacious's avatar

You meant Armando

abqbear's avatar

Think we can win this. Defense won't blow another deep ball and the offense just needs to finally finish some drives.

sacman701's avatar

Seems like we're generally getting the better of them, we just had two awful plays.

Old Bear 71's avatar

A week ago I felt we would lose this one worse than we did to SMU.

But what a nice surprise!

Gobears512's avatar

Assuming we don't fumble it and immediately collapse prior to the half - I'm not unhappy with how well the bears are holding up

sacman701's avatar

Good job by 4 there to hold up instead of blocking the guy in the back.

Bluehenbear's avatar

Can we poach unlv special teams coach?

sacman701's avatar

You don't even need a special teams coach. You just need to line up in a defensive formation, with the deepest safety at a depth to catch a punt.

CalGal2004's avatar

Can we poach *any* ST coach?!

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

Wilcox has guys pull double duty as ST’s coach…didn’t work with Bloesch pulling double duty either. Sigh.

Honestly not sure how common a dedicated ST’s coach is at the collegiate level.

GlueAndBold's avatar

Can we poach *anyone*?

Calbears93's avatar

Swing pass to Ott…slants to Endries…deep balls to Merriweather…I’m ready to coach!

OldSoCalBear's avatar

this could be another Cheez-it bowl

KJ1980's avatar

St least it's in a great stadium in a big city and Gronk will be there

KJ1980's avatar

Go Bears! We need this one.

abqbear's avatar

7-6 feels a whole lot better than 6-7 and could add some momentum to the portal window.

KJ1980's avatar

Hate to say it. If dreams can true, wouldn't that be nice?, Bruce Springsteen.

Toohandy's avatar

If only we had FERNANDO!!

KJ1980's avatar

It will be an adventure!

This is your last chance to rate the Bears this season. Go Bears!

Clifford Fewel's avatar

Thanks for the informative, entertaining chat, all.

Bluehenbear's avatar

Ott frustrated. He needs to portal

deehart's avatar

Honestly, he should. Maybe he can recover from his injuries, regain his form, and have success behind a solid offensive line and coaching staff.

GoldenSD81's avatar

With this loss Winless Wilcox is now:

43-50 overall

23-43 conference record

1-3 in bowl games

Yet, somehow he has earned the right to come back and coach for a 9th consecutive season.

OC Bear's avatar

not fair. Gotta give him a 3-season Mulligan for covid.

GoldenSD81's avatar

And another 3 season mulligan for Mendoza transferring.

Calbears93's avatar

We need money. Won’t happen otherwise.

deehart's avatar

hard to get money if the program has the kind of momentum that Cal's program has at the moment. I mean, are you inspired to give?? I thought not.

GoldenSD81's avatar

Wilcox is going to coach Cal for 10 or 11 seasons. I am at peace with that.

CalBear’19's avatar

It’s honestly disgusting.

JBear's avatar

Lack of Funding + Knowlton - NIL donations from fans = bad coaches/coaching

HaasBear's avatar

Wilcox is a symptom, knowlton is the disease.

Calbears93's avatar

Everyone on this thread is guilty. I assume you are giving a boat load to NIL?

JBear's avatar

I am giving as much as I can

GoldenSD81's avatar

Also going to equal a very bad 2025 season.

deehart's avatar

Give Wilcox an extension! Stay the course... Good times are just around the corner!

Dominick Damiani's avatar

Ha Ha !!! Not sure if u are joking

deehart's avatar

I am... but it wasn't all that long ago that I still held out a little hope for him and the program. Now, it would take a heck of a transfer class to have even hope that next year could equal this year, never mind improvement.

natebear's avatar

this is wilcox idiocy in a nutshell: play backups and not try, but still call TOs at the end?

HaasBear's avatar

This team sucks in every single phase

HelloBowlesHall's avatar

The d has played well particularly given the players not playing.

sacman701's avatar

We were getting the better of UNLV on both ends until Harris went out. Caminong is helpless, and we've been playing backups on defense since Harris got hurt.

HaasBear's avatar

Holding our own against a mountain west team is not a good goal.

GoldenSD81's avatar

With an interim head coach.

HaasBear's avatar

Can we fire Wilcox now. Would be a fun commercial break activity.

Dominick Damiani's avatar

If they haven't fired him by now . It seems they will never will.

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

Nah they will…if he doesn’t win 8 next year…

GoldenSD81's avatar

You’re to optimistic. If he wins 6, he will be back for 26.

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

We got a Jake’s dinner on it.

GoldenSD81's avatar

I know, I look forward to cashing that in.

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

I like a filet, medium rare

JeriAnn May's avatar

I don’t blame the players here, but I am very pissed at the coaching decisions here. Waving the white flag is not acceptable for fans who say ‘the bear will not die’ and stick with the team thru a lot. Not right Wilcox….your fans deserve better…

deehart's avatar

Put in Zach Kline already!

OC Bear's avatar

CJ taken to the lockkeroom from the injury tent

Gobears512's avatar

That makes more sense and now I feel a little guilty about complaining.

On a side note - I thought I was putting the kids to bed but then literally out of no where my 4 year old says: "I don't want dad". No prompting, no malice... can't help but laugh but damn!

Clifford Fewel's avatar

Young fathers quickly learn humility.

Gobears512's avatar

Too true. At least the 2 year old is still pro-dad but for how long?

Clifford Fewel's avatar

On the plus side, it’s intermittent.

Dominick Damiani's avatar

Why does he have his face covered???

Calbears93's avatar

WTF is happening. We are apparently throwing in the towel? I mean I guess the bowl games are all a joke now but why not try to win and finish the year with a winning record?

Swimmie1's avatar

This game is threatening to redefine what it means to be a fan.

HelloBowlesHall's avatar

That ship sailed with the cheez-it bowl.

GoldenSD81's avatar

I don’t fault Mendoza for transferring out and I wouldn’t fault Harris for doing the same. Sure competition is good when you have legitimate players that create competition but Wilcox just likes to have competition for the sake of competition, even when it isn’t necessary.

Rugbear's avatar

You have to look at players and see how they play games and you gotta give them game experience. This game is meaningless for our season. Every game will mean something next year. Better to give kids game experience now and lose now the next year.

Calbears93's avatar

That makes no sense.

GoldenSD81's avatar

What makes no sense is Wilcox constantly creating unnecessary QB competition and switching out QBs in season and during games when the starting QB isn’t hurt. He did it with Garbers, he did it with Mendoza, he did it tonight with Harris.

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

It does when you factor in how poor a judge of personnel Justin Wilcox is.

BearSquared's avatar

Where is Harris? Is he tired or something?

97Bear's avatar

Can these announcers find out ??

BearSquared's avatar

I mean from inside the stadium I have no idea. I don’t see his number on the sideline but I could just be missing him.

97Bear's avatar

What in the world are we doing? Now I’m really glad I didn’t go.

Swimmie1's avatar

Why should I care when the coach doesn’t?

Juice's avatar

Caminong is NOT it.

OldSoCalBear's avatar

we're due for a pick
