Cal men's basketball gets a visit from UTSA transfer PG Christian Tucker
The California Golden Bears definitely need a point guard and this is one of their top targets.
Mark Madsen has secured his commitment to Cal, and now he is pushing to land his top priority, a starting point guard. All the news around Cal men’s basketball transfer searching seems to be centered around the point position, as the Bears don’t have anyone like that currently on the roster.
UT San Antonio point guard transfer Christian Tucker will reportedly visit Cal on April 17th according to several sources. A 6-3, 178 pound point, Tucker averaged 11.3 points, 2.9 rebounds, 5.4 assists, and 1.1 steals as a junior.
Aside from Cal, Tucker has heard from UCLA, San Diego State, Nevada, Loyola Chicago, East Carolina and Wyoming among other programs.
Cal has heard from multiple point guards, including
Arizona State point guard Frankie Collins, who committed to TCU soon after putting the Bears in the top six.
San Jose State point guard Myron Amey put Cal in his top four.
Norfolk State point guard Jamarii Thomas might be planning a visit.
Nice, thanks Avi. Kid absolutely looks like a decent ball handler that could contribute. Confident they’re bringing in quality individuals, as well.
Interesting that besides Dort, who averaged just 2 and 1 in his lone SEC season and doesn’t figure to be a real difference maker, none of our visits are P5 guys…it puts pressure on Coach Madsen and staff to really develop these guys. While I am not counting him out, and basketball is a team sport, eventually in a league like the ACC you got to have some horses…
Hopefully MM can land a few whales as well.
