Quantum Computing @ Berkeley

i got invited to some small roundtable dinner-discussion in NYC last night. the idea was to have some dean (Steve Khan - Physical Sciences) hear from people in NYC who are involved in and interested in quantum computing.

quick takeaways

- Cal is involved in some Statewide quantum initiative that will eventually create jobs. they dont want to fall behind others that have also publicly made investments (IL, MD, CO, SC, and others)

- physics dept is changing Physics 10 to be about quantum information

- physics dept is going to offer a minor in quantum computing for those interested

- they are considering more non-major classes because there is an awareness that you probably dont need to know mathematics of quantum mechanics to effectively use QCs.

- there were some people in the room that were there in the classic NYC investor and finance mindset that are waiting until QCs are actually useful before investing.
