Welcome to the DBD, a W4C community board where one can talk about pretty much anything, like…
Fun Dip was created in the 1940s and originally called Lik-M-Aid.
When called Lik-M-Aid, it consisted of 4 packets of flavored and colored sugar. When rebranded in the 1970s as Fun Dip, two edible candy sticks called "Lik-A-Stix" were added. While the original flavors consisted of lime, cherry and grape, the most common flavors are cherry, grape, and a raspberry/apple combination that turns from blue when dry to green when wet with saliva or water. The brand was sold to Nestle in 1989, before being sold to Ferraro Candy company in 2018 along with other Wonka Candy Brands
Large number of Pac-12 players are entering the portal, including six from UW. It will be interesting to see if Madsen is targeting any of these guys or is he going to go national with his efforts.

I've got 2 of those, gave one to No 3. I ordered one, then realized they had a 3 for 100 offer so I called them to cancel and place the new order. They had already sent out the first one and I let them know. They said to just keep it. It's a great hat. I also want the associated baseball jersey but it looks like they aren't making it anymore.
just now i asked to "text w/ Amazon rep" about a return. clearly they have hooked up a much-smarter-than-average virtual assistant since i definitely was not talking to a real person.
it was able to answer questions about my account and process refund in a non-standard way. most of the virtual assistants so far just grab text from a set of FAQ or search the website for you. but rarely cant it do anything actionable.
Can no longer buy the bins because if the vinas Rojas are fresh, there’s no telling how many I would eat.
My initial forays on the East Coast were always met with disappointment, as for the longest time Twizzlers were the only licorice game in town…barf. Not so much of an issue now, as America has finally come around to the finest licorice product known to man.
twizzlers (and red vines) are NOT licorice. There's no such thing as red licorice. Only black. Aka "licorice". There's "red fruity thing that's made using the same mold as licorice", but that's it.
as a licorice lover, (a) I have my aforementioned linguistic bone to pick with red "licorice" and (b) was able to make massively one-sided halloween candy trades
This Fool on Hulu. Suggested by my ex who grew up in LA. "It's about aging LA vato gangsters." It's funny and top notch with great references. I'm about halfway through the 10 episodes. 15/19 WB
I like dip. A lot. Onion dip is always a big hit, but I also really like hot artichoke dip (SHOCKING I KNOW) and my mama's chili dip that is a can of chili no beans and a brick of cream cheese all heated up, served with scoops (Frito or Tostito, take your pick).
in Texas there's a small chain called "Chuy's" - where Jenna Bush was drinking underage before getting pulled for DUI - there's a couple of place in Austin and Houston (and Dallas?) - anyways they have this jalapeno ranch, which oddly you need to ask for every time, but its always free and everyone gets it so I don't get the needing to ask part.
I used to make a kick-ass bean dip every New Year's Day which the family would enjoy while watching bowl games. (The tradition ended when I stopped watching bowl games.) Key ingredient was beans although the cheese, jalapeños and salsa were also important additions.
BERKELEY – Cal fans can get a sneak preview of the upcoming football season and enjoy a wide array of fun activities throughout the day during the admission-free Cal Football Spring Showcase at California Memorial Stadium on Saturday, April 15. Gates open to the public at 12:30 p.m. PT with Pac-12 Networks' live coverage and the scrimmage beginning at 2 p.m.
BERKELEY – The California baseball team will play five games in the next six days, including four straight at home against Stanford on Thursday through Saturday and Nevada on Monday to conclude a season-long eight-game homestand at Stu Gordon Stadium. The Golden Bears will then face Saint Mary's in Moraga on Tuesday.
Cal (12-12, 3-9 Pac-12) is 2-2 so far on the homestand, most recently defeating Pacific 5-4 on Monday. Stanford enters this week ranked No. 9 in the country in the D1Baseball poll. The Cardinal (18-7, 7-2) sit atop the Pac-12 standings and split a four-game series at Oklahoma last weekend. Nevada (12-15) will play a three-game series at UNLV prior to coming to Berkeley, while the Gaels (10-14) will travel to Malibu to take on Pepperdine this weekend before returning to the East Bay to host the Bears.
BERKELEY – The California softball team opens a seven-game road swing with a trip to Seattle for three games at No. 10 Washington on Thursday through Saturday at the Husky Softball Stadium.
First pitch between the Golden Bears and Huskies is set for 5 p.m. PT on Thursday with Friday scheduled for a 6 p.m. start and the series finale on Saturday slated for noon. Thursday's game will air on the Pac-12 Networks with Friday and Saturday on Pac-12 Washington.
NAPA – The California women's golf team improved for the second straight day to close out the Silverado Showdown, posting the fifth-best third round team score to finish in 10th place.
Graduate student Annika Borrelli led the way with a huge performance on the third and final day. The Alamo, Calif. native recorded the Golden Bears' best round of the tournament with a 2-under 70, tied for the second-best mark among all 93 golfers on Wednesday. She finished as the Bears low scorer overall at 8-over 224, tied for 24th individually.
BERKELEY – Two members of the No. 5 California women's water polo team have been named to the 2023 Cutino Award Watch List, USA Water Polo announced Thursday.
In the midst of their stellar senior campaigns, goalkeeper Isabel Williams and utility Cecily Turner represented the Golden Bears on the watch list, which recognizes 20 of the best women's water polo players in the country. The Cutino Award – which will be awarded next spring – is the top individual honor a player can receive.
BERKELEY – The 43rd-ranked California men's tennis team concludes its regular-season home schedule when the Golden Bears (9-7, 1-2 Pac-12) host No. 28 UCLA (9-5, 1-1) on Friday at 1 p.m. PDT and No. 10 USC (11-6, 1-1) on Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Hellman Tennis Complex.
Surrounding the two matches, the Bears will celebrate the accomplishments of three segments of their community.
As part of Cal Athletics' year-long celebration of the 50th anniversary of Title IX, the men's tennis program will honor Elaine Garcia – Cal's Assistant Athletic Director of Sports Medicine, and the Bears' long-time trainer – during Friday's match.
Mark Madsen continues to make an excellent first impression as the polar opposite of Mark Fox…he hosted a Zoom meeting with a number of former players including Ryan Jamison, Raymond “Circus” King, amongst others, openly asking for their involvement in the program and leaving a standing invitation to attend any practice come fall.
The program continues to be active in the portal in terms of recruiting…assistant coaches should be announced soon.
Yikes, MoriB maybe woke up on the wrong side of the bed today...;-)
Sure, not yet, but he is doing the basic, fundamental things a head coach NEEDS to do to be successful, things that have not been done for the past 6 seasons. He is recruiting nationally, meeting with donors, seeking the involvement of former players...Fox did NONE of these thing. This is the leadership that is needed.
well, kinda...I have been battling jet lag in Germany. so wrong side of the meridiem line? :-)
I was actually trying to channel my inner chitwood, tho.
agreed that those are all great things, but they're table stakes (albeit stakes that haven't been tabled in awhile).
all I'm doing is waiting to see Ws (or at least entertainment) on the court. in case this is all just performative...(he is a stanfurd alum, after all!)
you must be really young to not know either Jamison or Circus. (Or it's just that I've gotten so old, that I feel that one *should* know them! ;-)
Jamison was a center who's main skill was getting the ball in the post and then bringing it down to his knees to give everyone on the other team a fair shot at stealing it.
EXACTLY!! Jamo, you're 6'11"....just f-ing dunk it, or at least go right back up....maddening.
Circus was once listed as the move overrated player in the Pac-10 by Street and Smith's (Bruce Pascoe wrote the blurb, IIRC), which struck me as odd, because he was nothing more than the 3rd or 4th option on the team...wasn't sure he was even "rated" enough to be overrated...
early 90s I think. I think Circus King was there when I was there since I remember seeing him play. Jamo was I think right after I graduated. He may have been on the team for Kidd's last year.
Circus King was contemporaneous with Madsen - Jamo was Cal fans least favorite basketball player since Kyle Campenelli, but I always thought it was unfair. He didn't have the greatest hands and was a little bit soft, but if he caught the ball, he had a decent post game. He was decent for 8ppg 6 rpg (off the top of my head, no idea how close that was to his career averages. He had a breakout game in Orlando in the 7-Up shootout vs Cincy.
Dammit - just checked - 4.5ppg, 3.5 rpg. Career highs of 7.5, 5.2 in his junior year so I remembered something correctly.
Two more points - he had an absolutely classic skit with Bear Territory where he was wandering around Steve's apartment changing light bulbs and getting things off high shelves and he turns to the camera and says "I'm not here just because I'm tall, am I?"
He was also supposedly the number 1 volleyball recruit in the nation at Middle Blocker out of Loyola in LA as well.
I haven't read the article, but I would like to say that I agree in the main that the Warriors are dangerous enough that you don't want them in your bracket. Even in a down year. Last year is Exhibit A.
I think I'm good with this? I was going back-and-forth, but decided the Dubs had a better chance at getting the 5 seed if they were going up against LAC, not LAL.
For the 2nd time in a week, the Giants lineup struggles against an opposing team’s ace, as this time it is ChiSox right-hander Dylan Cease and 4 relievers combining to handcuff SF hitters for 8 innings before SF gets to Joe Kelly late for couple. Logan Webb has not pitched poorly, but falls to 0-2.
Hmm… this is not new news (McGuire). The repeated pattern of claims / allegations coming out of Athletics makes me wonder who’s lining jk’s pockets. Follow the money.

I did the same thing. It was able to send out a replacement since the delivery picture they took was obviously not No 2's front door.
CANDY
LaChance.
Candy LaChance played in the majors from 1893 to 1905. Slightly before my time. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Candy_LaChance
Cugel probably saw him play.
Not that into baseball, frankly.
Used to have lik-m-aid in the dugout during my little league games, purchased at the snack bar.
After batting I had a few dips of lik-m-aid before getting my catcher's gear on.
I remember having fun dip at swim meets. Allegedly to get a sugar rush before the race.
Dextrose tablets. Coach used to toss them to us in the pool after a good (read: hard) workout. Mom wouldn’t let us have fun dip. Too darn messy.
Red Vines.
Can no longer buy the bins because if the vinas Rojas are fresh, there’s no telling how many I would eat.

I hate black licorice. Red vines are the way to go.
thanks for calling them red "vines"!
as a licorice lover, (a) I have my aforementioned linguistic bone to pick with red "licorice" and (b) was able to make massively one-sided halloween candy trades
That's what's on the box. I like red vines better than twizzlers.
You must be fun at parties. ;-)
only ones that Mark Fox hosts!
Oh man! I wonder if Fox is actually personable when you get him 1 on 1 or if he's just a dick with no personality...I expect the latter.
I think coaching brings out your personality so I expect he's a dick and yells at his family.

There's a lot of funny jokes and scenes, but ultimately the show didn't tie together for me.
OTHER DIPS
Lipton French onion

Pickle Dip-- delicious!
dip in a cold pool of water (or a bunch of snow) before sauna or hot tub.
i am not sure about the purported health benefits, but i do rather like this activity on a snowy ski vacation.
FAVORITE DIP
Seven layer. Served with scoops because tort chips don’t stand up to the weight of all those layers.
I like dip. A lot. Onion dip is always a big hit, but I also really like hot artichoke dip (SHOCKING I KNOW) and my mama's chili dip that is a can of chili no beans and a brick of cream cheese all heated up, served with scoops (Frito or Tostito, take your pick).
Mama Chitwood makes a killer hot artichoke dip. It's delightful.
Onion dip
DQ dip cone!!!
NOW we are talkin' !!!!!
the local ice cream truck does a very good soft serve dip too.
i get either that or an old fashioned ice cream sandwich
babganoush
hummus
in Texas there's a small chain called "Chuy's" - where Jenna Bush was drinking underage before getting pulled for DUI - there's a couple of place in Austin and Houston (and Dallas?) - anyways they have this jalapeno ranch, which oddly you need to ask for every time, but its always free and everyone gets it so I don't get the needing to ask part.
babaganoush >> hummus (but hummus is still good)
Mrs HSB has a great hummus recipe. I've never tried to make babaganoush.
Mrs HSB will be happy to hear that her cooking/food was complimented!
yes. it is very good, but sort of a runny rendition. not thick and creamy.
let me try to dig up a recipe ..
I used to make a kick-ass bean dip every New Year's Day which the family would enjoy while watching bowl games. (The tradition ended when I stopped watching bowl games.) Key ingredient was beans although the cheese, jalapeños and salsa were also important additions.
Simple French Onion with Ruffles.
I make the Hidden Valley Ranch powered dip with sour cream and have it with Krinkle Cut Kettle Chips.
there is particularly satisfying about Ruffles and dips
Smokey Black Bean Dip. So good.
http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/smoky-black-bean-dip-104800
a good tex-mex chili con queso is one of my favorite dip-like things.
no one else in my family seems to care for it, so i usually only get it if i am out alone or with others.

I vividly remember the Cincy game in Orlando. "Why can't we have this guy all the time?!?"
But as much as I harshed on him above, never *never* would I tarnish him by putting him in the Kyle category!
