Quick bites: Sharks sunk by Kraken in 5-1 loss

https://www.fearthefin.com/quick-bites-sharks-sunk-by-kraken-in-5-1-loss/

Both the Seattle Kraken and the San Jose Sharks are out of the playoffs, which means this game was all about pride and it was one that the Sharks lost. ItтАЩs been a rough ride for both teams this year, but this is hockey and anything can happen. With a young Sharks team looking to develop and find some chemistry, the players didnтАЩt find it in last nightтАЩs battle against the Kraken. It was fan appreciation at the Shark Tank, which got things to a more positive start.

AтАЩs drop series finale in Colorado, lose 12-5

https://www.athleticsnation.com/2025/4/6/24402516/as-drop-series-finale-in-colorado-lose-12-5

The AтАЩs dropped the series finale in Colorado on Sunday afternoon, losing in the yellow jerseys and getting crushed by the Rockies 12-5, seeing a chance at a series sweep slip away. Not a great way to end the road trip but at least they won the series.

Walk-off тАФ but Wilmer this time!

https://www.mccoveychronicles.com/2025/4/6/24402714/san-francisco-giants-4-6-2025-recap-walk-off-wilmer-flores-mike-yastrzemski-jordan-hicks

The biggest miss of the afternoon goes to Christian Koss.

It didnтАЩt come with a bat in his hand, or a glove either тАФ but with a Powerade cooler. As his teammates mobbed Wilmer Flores after his pinch-hit walk-off single, Koss, dutifully in his back-up infielder role, took up the celebratory fount, jogged the jug out onto the field, and looked for the man he aimed to anoint in the knot of bodies.

Who had the Giants leading the NL West a week and a half into the season? Probably the same person that had the top 3 NL West teams with 5 total losses a week and a half into the season.

At least the Dodgers would be in the WC game.

Giants have yet to play against a +0.500 club. I suspect a strong reversion to the expected norm is coming quite soon, starting when they play the Yanks, Phils, and Angels on the Road.

You grab wins anywhere you find them. This is something Gabe was generally not good at.

Yup, banking wins is a good thing regardless. I don't think they're actually going to beat the Dodgers for the division, but with a fast start a wild card berth is reachable.

Would be interesting to see a Pads/Giants battle for a WC spot.

The NL is going to be a real scrum for those three WC slots. A lot of teams have reason to think they can get one.

Dodgers erase big deficit, but walk away with another loss to Phillies

https://www.truebluela.com/2025/4/6/24402456/dodgers-comeback-walks-teoscar-hernandez-phillies

The Dodgers erased a four-run deficit to take a late lead, but the Phillies rallied in the seventh inning to win 8-7 in SundayтАЩs finale of a three-game series at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia.

That early hole got chipped away at in the middle innings, then took the lead with a three-run seventh that included RBI doubles by Mookie Betts and Will Smith to bookend the scoring.

Dodgers lose 2 1 run games to the Phillies. Let the second guessing of Dave Roberts' pitching staff begin.

Do you know the details of yesterday's game? Glasnow didn't have it in the 3rd, probably due to the slippery mound when the rain started coming down and his footing was bad so he didn't get out of the 3rd(?). 4 walks. The Phillies didn't do much the first 2 innings. The only argument would be that the Dodgers didn't ask for the mound to be fixed while Glasnow was pitching. The Phillies did when Sanchez came to warm up and they fixed the mound. Vesia gave up the grand slam on the 1st pitch after the umpire made him wait 3-4 min in the rain after he was warm to get new rosin bags. After that, nothing until Treinan came in. He has given up 0 runs this year. 1st batter line drive that is misplayed by Pages the CF. Walk, Bloop single I think. Then a ground ball to 3rd that wasn't hit hard and the DP wasn't turned because a super fast runner barely beats out the relay to 1st.

Friday's game Dodgers lose 3-2. 1 run in the 1st and then nothing until Yates gives up the HR in the 7th.

So I'd say he's handled the pitching staff fine this year. They're not letting the starts go super deep because their bullpen is amazing. And you do remember how he handled it during the playoffs last year don't you? So I'd say between the playoffs and so far this year, the narrative is getting old.

Issues with the mound due to rain are reason enough to suspend the game. In fact, it should be a slam dunk reason for suspending the game.

MLB takes chances every time they fail to stop play when the rain starts to fall. They really roll the dice during the playoffs when it starts to rain.

I remember there was the one pitcher that kept throwing the balls out of play. Everytime the umpire gave him a new one, he tossed it out. Finally after 4 or 5 balls the umpire called for a rain delay.

That sounds like a pitcher who was basically telling the umpire, "Take a hint, blue. I'm not pitching in these conditions."

All true, but losing the division lead to the Giants by losing 1 run games is bound to be a source of angsts in Dodger land.

Personally, I'll not put too much stock in much of anything until at least May 1st. Although, teams can bury themselves early. Losing 2 of 3 on the road (but not all 3) to one of the better teams in MLB (alone) does not do that.

I agree, I don't think the Dodgers are worried about being in 2nd place right now. In June, maybe, and it depends on how many games out.

both mens and womens races were won by the reigning world champ - Pogacar and Kopecky

in cycling, if you win the one-day world championships near the end of the season (Sep/Oct) you get the honor of wearing the rainbow jersey in every race you are in for a full year.

the only time it doesnt apply is, next years world championship, or if you are supposed to be wearing another jersey in the moment like yellow, green etc for the Tour de France.

Pogacar is currently in the midst of an all-time great streak. he won cycling's triple crown last year, Tour de France, Giro d'Italia and worlds. he is an amazing mix of an excellent one day rider and a grand tour contender. seemingly no flaws ..

he is trying to check the box on winning the 5 monuments (prestigious 1 day races) as well as all 3 grand tours. also, no one has ever won all 3 grand tours in a single year, not even the great Eddy Merckx (the Wayne Gretzky of cycling).

Steph Curry held to 3 points in Warriors loss to Rockets

https://www.goldenstateofmind.com/2025/4/6/24402830/warriors-rockets-scores-recaps-steph-curry-dillon-brooks

ItтАЩs hard, in the NBA, to win when your stars donтАЩt deliver. And itтАЩs impossible for your stars to deliver night-in, night-out. Steph Curry last week had arguably the best three-game stretch of any player in the NBA this year, thoroughly dominating as the Golden State Warriors won a highly-impressive slate of games, beating the Memphis Grizzlies, Los Angeles Lakers, and Denver Nuggets in a span of four games.
