Deamontae Diggs decommits from Cal

After initially deciding to become a California Golden Bear, Deamontae Diggs has reopened his recruitment. He will continue to explore within the spring transfer portal window for a new home.

This is a bummer, but the addition of Missouri transfer Serigne Tounkara does soften the blow. It’s quite possible that Tounkara’s addition was part of the calculus for Diggs to reconsider other opportunities. It would have been a very competitive race for Diggs to win the job. Tounkara along with T.J. Bollers were huge pickups in the last few weeks.

I do think Cal wants to have multiple edge players in this spring portal cycle. Being able to be as scheme-flexible as possible should increase the team’s defensive profile. So expect Cal to try hard to find at least another edge player.
