Cal lands another huge portal commit in Missouri transfer edge Serigne Tounkara
The California Golden Bears continue to get deeper at every critical position.
Huge news for the California Golden Bears as they will have another major commitment at a position of need, as Serigne Tounkara has portalled into the program.
As a member of Missouri's 2023 recruiting class, Tounkara was ranked as the 84th best edge in the nation and 155th best prospect out of Texas by 247Sports Composite. He redshirted last year, so he has all four years of eligibility remaining.
Along with Deamontae Diggs, Tounkara will help provide critical edge depth on the front seven to offset the loss of Myles Jernigan. The Bears struggled in the pass rush game last year and will need all the talent they can use.
This continues a half-month string of successful spring transfer portal entrances for the Bears, which includes…
Kyion Grayes (Ohio State wide receiver)
Jasaiah Wagoner (Oklahoma cornerback)
Ryan Yaites (LSU safety)
Braden Miller (Michigan State offensive tackle)
T.J. Bollers (Wisconsin defensive lineman)
Corey Dyches (Maryland tight end)
While the production profile varies from player to player, there is no doubt the team the Bears put on the field this fall will be one of the most talented and deepest we will see in the Justin Wilcox era.
Welcome to Cal Serigne! Go Bears!
When I look up team rankings of portal classes like on 24/7 Sports or Rivals, it seems like they are ranking just based on the guys each program has brought in. Is there one that incorporates in its rankings the losses to the portal in addition to the gains? Because, when you say “there is no doubt the team the Bears put on the field this fall will be one of the most talented and deepest we will see in the Justin Wilcox era” I am a little unsure if you are concluding the gains in this year’s roster have far outweighed the losses. I hope that is the case but I am not ready to declare it a near top talented Wilcox roster without any doubt. For example Hunter was a huge loss. I haven’t seen a replacement (in terms of production) based on ‘23 numbers, though we did add some speed at WR. Many of the other players added have limited snaps. Conversely Cal lost several guys who had contributed a lot of value and playing time. I would like to see a position by position breakdown before I can make a comprehensive analysis that leads to this type of conclusion. I’m sure WFC will have that leading up to the season. Thanks for your timely reporting.
Nice depth piece. I wonder what kind of talent this guy has cause he's never played. No matter. We need to get all the pressure we can get if we can crack the starting 5 more power To him.
