ESPN, Kirk Herbstreit award Cal College Gameday at Berkeley the best of the year
The Cal family ended up driving and delivering the most indelible memory of 2024.
Cal fans, we did it. In the inaugural year of the 12-team playoff, with every other national university trip ending up in a Big Ten or SEC school, it was Berkeley, California that everyone at ESPN and College GameDay ended up remembering. They were awarded Best College GameDay of 2024 yesterday.
Kirk Herbstreit went onto say in his Herbie Award that it was the best scene all year by far.
Just to recap a few of the crazy things that happened on that 6 am showtime in Memorial Glade. Pat McAfee got the Cal kids to chant “USA” in the ESPN intro.
Daniel Villasenor became an immediate Berkeley folk hero by nailing a kick in Vans.
Stanford Steve got bullied into mocking his own university.
ESPN played O-T-T T-O G-O for the crowd during an intermission.
Nick Saban was implored by the Cal fantifa to remove his red tie, and the greatest college football coach put on a show.
Marshawn Lynch put Kirk Herbstreit in the sleeper.
There are so many memories, so many moments, and it’s all thanks to each and every one of you. There are few times you get to be a part of something this special that touches so many people. Let’s all make sure we never forget what we did together and what we’re capable of.
Go Bears Forever. Go Bears Always.
Is it fair to say that none of THIS part of the season would have happened without the #Calgorithm?
Love this! I actually took a screen shot that day of Saban wearing the CAL tie and kept it. Epic!!
