Feels like some Manchurian Candidate BS with Monty as the puppet master putting in his little Furd robot. Not like either guy can do more damage than has already been done to this program, but there were much better candidates and it seems like the process has alienated important stakeholders. Besides “better than Fox” I have nothing better to say.

This is most likely the scenario. For whatever reason, Monty still holds a lot of sway over Cal MBB. First he wanted his some hired, then Decuire, and now he gets his way with someone he coached at furd.
I mean how much does DeCuire move the needle? If our bar is Wyking and Fox, then yeah, sure. But Monty wasn’t pushing Gates either, which was an obvious and worthy swing as far back as 6 years ago. Monty has his own agenda, which has been pretty consistently tied to his own legacy.
Also, I know Jay John. OK guy, but a wee bit old school, no? Maybe Madsen wins over fans with his charm and energy. Maybe he wins over me. But I do think Pasternack and AAR have better upsides, would get the base engaged quicker, and would put us on a path to having a more modern basketball program more quickly. Madsen becomes a better talking point for the old Bay Area sports journos though -- the few of them that are left anyways.

Yeah, but like...we may be in a much better place had we just listened to him. So maybe this time?
