Cal NFL UDFA signings: Jackson Sirmon to the Jets, Matthew Cindric to Vikings
Congrats to our Cal Bears for starting their pro journey.
While Patrick McMorris getting drafted was the big headliner from the NFL Draft for Cal, there were other good pieces of news for other prospective Bears in the pros.
Two Golden Bears became undrafted free agents! First, former Cal linebacker Jackson Sirmon was signed by the New York Jets. In his two seasons at Cal, Sirmon racked up 154 tackles, 4.5 sacks, 7 pass deflections, and two forced fumbles before injury cut his senior campaign short. The major highlight was his fumble recovery for a touchdown that helped Cal win the 2022 Big Game.
Cal offensive lineman Matthew Cindric was signed by the Minnesota Vikings as an undrafted free agent. Cindric started 34 of his 35 games at Cal, and was selected to the 2023 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team for his service in the community
Another nice piece of news: Monroe Young got a mini-camp invite to the San Francisco 49ers. Young caught 48 passes for 511 yards and four touchdowns in his Cal career.
Additionally, former Cal QB Jack Plummer (transferred to Louisville) got signed as a UDFA by Carolina, and Cal cornerback Chigozie Anusiem (transferred to Colorado State) was signed as a UDFA by Washington.
Congrats to all of them, and best of luck in their pursuit of being on an NFL roster this fall.
Sirmon also picked off a fumble in midair against Auburn and ran it in for what would have been probably the winning points but was screwed by the SEC refs who called it out of bounds and it WASN'T.
