The news just gets more unprecedented by the day. Not even 24 hours after Jaydn Ott announced his move to Oklahoma, Jaivian Thomas, Cal’s leading rusher in 2024, and who would’ve been assured to be the starting Cal running back going into 2025, has shockingly entered the portal, meaning the top five Cal running backs have decided to leave Berkeley in three days.
It is an utterly disastrous week for the Bears, and an ominous sign for the new Cal offensive staff, particularly running back coach Julian Griffin. Exoduses like this just don’t happen, especially with playing time on the table. Jamaal Wiley, Jayden Parker, Dean-Taylor Chapman are all that remain in the running back room, with Anthony League coming in the fall.
At this point, I don’t even know what to say. Things look very bleak. Cal goes from a veteran heavy backfield at quarterback and running back, to a very inexperienced group with not many reps under its belt. It is not at all the scenario that Justin Wilcox or the Cal fanbase would want in a very winnable season.
Not good. Not good at all.
How has there been no comment yet on this situation. Something is going on. Someone needs to be accountable for this and at least provide some background.
Oski just entered portal. Canon is being repossessed.
