Cal Men's Basketball: Mark Madsen hires Matt Scherbenske as Assistant Coach
The second domino to fall, with more reportedly set to fall
More and more questions have been asked and now more and more answers have been given as to who will be on the bench for Cal Men’s Basketball next fall. First it was Adam Mazarei who was hired away and now Matt Scherbenske has received the nod and joined the Golden Bears as reported by Jon Rothstein.

Scherbenske was most recently the director of recruiting for Texas Tech and most assuredly had a role in getting Fardaws Aimaq transferring to the Red Raiders from Utah Valley. Scherbenske also played college basketball for Kentucky and Oral Roberts during his career, so he has the perspective from the hardwood and the bench.
Fun fact: Matt Scherbenske was a graduate assistant at Cal under Mike Montgomery!
Welcome to Berkeley, Matt! The bench is rounding out with more reports coming out, so stay tuned for official announcements for other positions that are filled.
"Dominoes to fall" sounds like the phrase one would use when people are being let go rather than hired.

The staff has been interesting. No names I know. That isn't setting the bar super high but generally it appears to be guys who are coaches' coaches, meaning you kind of half to be a coaching insider to know these guys. I have a feeling that's going to turn out brilliantly for us.

Agree. I know a lot of fans would like to see their favorite Cal players on the staff, but if they don't have successful college coaching experience, I'd rather go with real coaches, because it actually is a profession.
Yeah, this favorite Cal player. Good article. Maybe Cal can give Randle a non-coaching job so he can learn what Cal wants in a BB coach.
