Cal wide receiver Mavin Anderson grad transfers to the portal
Best of luck to Mavin on whereever he ends up next!
There have been a few losses in the Cal wide receiver room from the transfer portal, but unlike the running back and tight end space, it was more in line with what was expected. Anderson is leaving for his final year of eligibility as a grad transfer. He had already previously walked on Senior Day, so it was likely he was planning to make this move already.
Anderson had a great 2022 campaign as the third option at wideout behind Jeremiah Hunter and J.Michael Sturdivant, catching 37 passes for 372 yards and three touchdowns. But his production dropped after that, grabbing eight receptions in 2023 and 14 receptions in 2024.
Cal lost several wide receivers in the winter period, including Nyziah Hunter (Nebraska), Mikey Matthews (UCLA), and Josiah Martin (Oklahoma), and also saw Mason Starling just transfer (but that was expected, as he is also a graduate transfer). The Bears have added a few new receivers, but more depth is needed.
Thank you for the memories Mavin! Best of luck in your next destination!
Love his “Ain’t never lost to a Tree” sign off. Wish him well and more playing time wherever he goes next.
Never understood why he didn’t get more playing time, but I’m certainly not privy to the inside stuff nor am I the expert. He stuck me as a fast, shifty impact player.
