The California Golden Bears (3-5, 2-3 Pac-12) will be missing some players for Saturday’s game against the winless Arizona Wildcats (0-8, 0-5 Pac-12).
“Multiple Cal football student-athletes are in COVID protocol and will not be available to play in Saturday's game at Arizona,” Cal Athletics said in a press release Thursday. “All student-athletes traveling to Tucson will be tested and cleared prior to departing the Bay Area.”
Citing federal and state student privacy laws, the university’s athletic department declined to state which players will not travel to Tucson, Arizona, or how many have been affected by the public health guidelines.
Arizona leads the series against California, 18-14-2, but has lost their last 20 games. The Wildcats’ last victory was a 35-30 win against the Colorado Buffaloes in Boulder, Colo., on Oct. 15, 2019.
California’s last win at Arizona was a 38-0 shutout of the Wildcats in 2004.
The Wildcats have lost their last two match-ups by only one score. Last week, Arizona fell to the USC Trojans 34-41 in Los Angeles, and the week prior, 16-21 against the Washington Huskies.
