Cal football announces open spring practice starting March 11, Spring Showcase on April 15
15 chances to see the Bears get ready for 2023.
The California Golden Bears have set their spring practices to start in mid-March and conclude in mid-April.
First spring practice date is slated for Saturday, March 11. The conclusion of the spring season comes on Saturday, April 15 at the Cal Spring Showcase, which will likely be broadcast by the Pac-12 Network.
A host of new players will be in action this spring, including new quarterback transfer Sam Jackson V, who will be battling Fernando Mendoza for the starting position. Also running backs Byron Cardwell and Justin Williams-Thomas will be backing up the new star in Bear Territory in Jaydn Ott.
This will be the second go-around for offensive coordinator Jake Spavital in Berkeley, although itβs likely his offense this time around will be quite different from the prototypical Bear Raid of seven years ago. This will be our first good chance to see what the new Cal offense will look like in action.
All of the spring dates have yet to be officially announced, but if they are similar to previous spring practices, expect a Monday, Wednesday, Friday cadence coupled with a few Saturday scrimmages.
Go Bears!
I think we are in for a big surprise with the O being far more explosive than it has been under Wilcox up until now. It seems like we have the horses and perhaps the catalyst in Jackson the Vth to make it happen. Cue the sunshine pumping from now til the end of August.
LOL.....I want to see what the Spav offense looks like when it's a Cal 14-7 lead in the third quarter, so likely the first game against North Texas, and Wilcox signals over to Spav he wants to turtle it in for the rest of the game and let his defense win it for him.
