Cal forward Monty Bowser enters transfer portal
The Bears will have plenty of roster spots to fill these next few months.
Another loss for Cal basketball came earlier this week, as Monty Bowser announced he will be entering the transfer portal as well. He becomes the fifth departure for the Bears for those with eligibility left.
Bowser did not play much this year after the first month, so it was likely he realized he would not be seeing much playing time next season as the Cal staff looked for new talent from elsewhere.
Bowser joins ND Okafor, Devin Askew, Grant Newell, and Rodney Brown Jr. in the portal. Fardaws Aimaq, Jalen Cone and Keonte Kennedy are out of eligibility, and Jaylon Tyson is testing his NBA Draft stock.
Cal men’s basketball will be resetting their whole slate next year. Luckily, it seems as if the Bears coaching staff will be active in the transfer portal, as they’ve been in contact with at least a few dozen portal players. More updates no that to come later this week.
Best of luck Monty.
This past season was so nice to see, but unfortunately we’ve reached a spot in the sport where there really is little incentive to invest NIL $ or a scholarship in kids that are not ready to make an immediate impact. Unless they are ready to contribute, it does not behoove a school like Cal to try and develop a kid because chances are they’re not sticking around.
Local boy. Sure hope he gets a good education somewhere else, though nothing will equal Cal. Best wishes to him. Boy, I'm increasingly convinced the staff are going all in on the Portal and must have some deep pockets. Any reporting on the amount of NIL money at the disposal of coach Madsen would be appreciated.
