Cal football camp documentary, Episode 3: Bears travelled to Sacramento to heat prep
The California Golden Bears defense was the focus on this latest Hard Knocks style video.
The California Golden Bears made the trip out to Northern California last week to get used to the heat before trips down South in the coming month to Auburn and Florida State.
The Cal football creative team was happy to supply us all with a look inside their brief trip to NorCal in part 3 of their Fall Camp series, plus a deeper look into the overall defense.
This one focuses on the defense, and you see the following from this tape:
Cal outside linebackers coach Vic So’oto talking frankly to his edge players, and getting intense in expecting more from his players.
Cal edge David Reese seems more confident than ever to build on his late 2023 performance, gets physical on the tight ends and offensive tackles, and he was talking the talk in practice. The man is serious!
Reese also gives instructions to defensive end Nate Burrell, who gets profiled as one of the main leaders up on the line. We get some peeks into defensive line coach Andrew Browning’s interactions with his unit.
Defensive coordinator Peter Sirmon discusses his overall philosophy, which is being hands off with his units and letting the individual coaches retain autonomy and then making a call on his plays from there.
We get introduced to Teddye Buchanan (transfer from UC Davis), slated to start at inside linebacker alongside Cade Uluave.
Defensive back coaches Terrence Brown (contemplative) and Tre Watson (passionate) chat about meshing their personality styles.
The standout transfer has been defensive back Marcus Harris, with some humorous interactions with Nohl Williams.
You can watch part 1 (focused on Justin Wilcox and the camp intro) and part 2 (focused on the offense) here.
Ok, 100% all in on Reese...that is a leader.
Man, I love the Reese interviews. He gives #55 a hard time in a classy way. Remember Nyan Boateng? Another UF transfer...
"getting better every day" is the party line!
