Cal Bears Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele, Aiden Manutai, Lebron Williams, Jae'on Young at Polynesian Bowl chat
The California Golden Bears have four representatives at tonight's game.
Check out tonight’s action from the Polynesian Bowl! Incoming Cal quarterback Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele, Cal defensive back Aiden Manutai and defensive lineman LeBron Williams are playing. Get your first glimpses of them before they head to Berkeley.
Time: 6 PM Pacific, 4 PM Hawaii
TV: NFL Network
Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele, the all-time passing leader in Hawaiian high school football history, will showcase his talents one last time in an All-Star game featuring tons of talent from the Pacific Rim, as well as a few other talents from elsewhere. More from his commitment story:
The California Golden Bears put their faith in Jaron Keawe Sagapolutele being the quarterback of the future. At the eleventh hour, it seems as if they had lost him to the machinations of modern college football recruiting.
Suddenly, in the last week, he’s back.
Sagapolutele spent a few weeks with the Oregon Ducks, decided it wasn’t for him, and transferred.
Safety Aiden Manutai will also be in action. More from his commitment story:
Per the above, he is a highly versatile defensive back who can make an impact across the backfield. This gives me shades of Ashtyn Davis who for Cal played at Safety, Outside and Inside Corner, and WR when needed.
His overall track and field metrics are quite good for the position:
11.66 100 meters,
5’06” high jump.
Manutai’s teammate LeBron Williams is also playing on the opposite side. More from our commitment story:
Williams ranks as the 100th best edge and 13th best prospect by 247Sports. The link to his Hudl highlights are here. Williams also visited UCLA recently, so winning this commitment is a nice in-state battle win. He had offers from Hawaii, Nevada and Washington State as well.
Last but not least, meet cornerback Jae’on Young.
Young held offers from USC, Oregon, Washington, Utah, Texas A&M, Arizona, Washington State, Kansas, BYU and Boston College. Young is ranked as the 50th best athlete by the 247Sports Composite rankings, and the 49th best California prospect. Here are his Hudl highlights.
Enjoy a Friday night of future Cal Bears!
Every year it seams so bleak
Not from me, but, we seem weak
Despite the everlasting tweak
We barely make a bowl
Then the season ends, we find
A small new hope, the really good kind
And all our pessimism does unwind
A diamond from the coal
But this year’s different, so we say
These from where the palm trees sway
I truly hope they like it and stay
Sad, but that’s our goal
Sagapolutele looked good right up until the end when he was intercepted to end the last minute comeback threat.
