Cal lands commitment from UTSA running back Brandon High
The California Golden Bears are beginning to rebuild their running back room.
It’s been a hard few weeks for Cal at running back.
Potential starting back Jaivian Thomas transferred to UCLA.
Kadarius Calloway, Byron Cardwell, Justin Williams-Thomas all entered the portal.
Cal has started to stem the bleeding, as new running back coach Julian Griffin brought in one of his former players from UT San Antonio. Meet Brandon High!
High led UTSA with eight rushing touchdowns in his freshman year, while also gaining 495 rushing yards. Here is some highlights from his UTSA campaign. The sophomore has three years of eligibility remaining.
High will join a Cal backfield that includes Jamaal Wiley and Anthony League, as well as Jayden Parker and Dean Taylor-Chapman. You’d have to imagine the Bears will still want to add one or two more running backs—there isn’t a clear RB1 from this rotation. Griffin did often opt for running back by committee. In the last two years at UTSA, the Roadrunners had four running backs with 75+ carries and 200+ rushing yards on the season, with no feature back, as the top runner didn’t hit 720 yards. That might be the case for Cal this season—situational runners who play based on down, distance and situation.
Welcome to Cal Brandon! Go Bears!
This kid ran 10.67 100 meters and has soft hands. Jayden Ott's best time in the 100-meter dash is 11.20 seconds in high school. What is that word called "upgrade"....
It looks like we just picked up RB Kendrick Raphael too! Keep'em coming ;-)
