The long rumored and feared decision has been made. Jaydn Ott will be Boomer Soonering in his final year of college, officially transferring to Oklahoma.
It’s a bitter blow for the California Golden Bears. Ott gained folk hero status after some great 2022 performances and an outstanding 2023 campaign, then refuting offers from numerous programs to stay last year.
His performance inspired the hit Calgorithm song, “Ott to Go”, which became a sensation in the college football landscape and was often mentioned by ESPN’s College GameDay.
After a disappointing 2024 season due to injury, Ott decided to return again this spring, but it seems as if Oklahoma came up with a big enough number and offer for him in the last few weeks to reconsider.
Cal will now have a clear starting running back in Jaivian Thomas for next season. There will be competition behind him for that second spot, with Jamaal Wiley, Jaydn Parker, Dean-Taylor Chapman, and Anthony League all vying to compete.
The Bears have also lost several other running backs to the portal in Justin Williams-Thomas, Byron Cardwell and Kadarius Calloway. It’s a brand new running back room for new coach Julian Griffin.
Thanks for the memories Jaydn.
No it's not. It's only a sad day for Ott, and for college football. Ott never did for us what any of our great backs did for us. We move on. If he'd rather be in the hell hole fly over nothing of OK, then so be it. I've spent time in OK, have family there, I know the place. Wouldn't wish it on anyone. We have great offensive coaches, and whoever suits up for the Bears, like Jet or Wiley or others, to carry the rock, will hear me screaming for them. Go Bears!
This hurts more from a Cal perspective than a football one…we can absolutely replace Ott’s football production.
