Cal guard Jalen Celestine reportedly enters transfer portal
It's looking like a full reboot in Haas Pavilion.
Sadly, after a nice rebuilding season, all the news in the last month for Cal men’s basketball has been not great. Jalen Celestine reportedly is in the transfer portal. Celestine averaged 8.7 points and 3.2 rebounds per game this season, and is a 40% three point shooter in college.
This is not ideal. The Bears have already seen five Golden Bears enter the transfer portal in Rodney Brown Jr., Devin Askew, Grant Newell, ND Okafor, and Monty Bowser. Some transfers were expected, others less so.
Celestine was definitely the one player we were certain would be ACC-ready next season, improving significantly last year to make a huge impact in Pac-12 play, including key contributions to beat Stanford and Washington.
With Jaylon Tyson testing his NBA draft stock, Keonte Kennedy, Fardaws Aimaq and Jalen Cone out of eligibility, Cal could have no returning contributors on their 2024 squad aside from Gus Larson.
The Bears are going to have to rebuild fully in the portal. It’s time to donate to the Cal Legends Collective NIL everyone. The war chest is needed now from Bear Territory for Mark Madsen to rebuild the team we all need from scratch.

As for football, it's a game that requires teamwork and stability for success, which helps put a damper on turnover. But it's heading the same way.
