Cal linebacker Teddye Buchanan drafted by the Baltimore Ravens
What an incredible success story!
No one knew what to expect when Teddye Buchanan showed up from UC Davis last year. The results have been borne out, culminating in Buchanan getting selected 129th overall in the 2025 NFL Draft in the fourth round by the Baltimore Ravens.
The transfer portal has its fair share of detractors, but stories like Buchanan is certainly one of the benefits. With Buchanan slotting alongside Cade Uluave, Cal’s defense quickly leapt back from below average to pretty good in a year. Buchanan was the spearhead, leading the Bears with 114 tackles and 12 tackles for loss, while also racking up two forced fumbles and five sacks. He has found the perfect fit in Baltimore, where he can learn on a deep defensive unit to try and be the next great Raven linebacker.
Buchanan is the third Golden Bear to be drafted, joining Nohl Williams (Chiefs, 3rd round) and Craig Woodson (Patriots, 4th round). He’s the fourth Cal linebacker to be drafted in the Justin Wilcox era, joining Devante Downs, Evan Weaver and Cameron Goode. Cal has had 13 players drafted in the NFL in Wilcox’s tenure, all on the defensive side of the football.
Congrats to Teddye! See you on Sundays.
Teddye will do well in the league. He has all the tools in the kit and the brains to go with it. Next Ray Lewis for the Ravens?
As a hardcore Ravens fan, I am ecstatic. My son covered Teddye at St Ignatius and this is a dream come true.
