Cal Quarterback Devin Brown Enters Transfer Portal, Return Not Out Of The Question
It'll be a brand new quarterback competition for 2026.
With the announced return of Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele after the arrival of Tosh Lupoi, it felt inevitable that Devin Brown would explore his options. Brown decided today to enter the transfer portal.
Brown was 4-7 for 48 yards, a touchdown, and an interception in limited backup time behind Sagapolutele. He arrived from Ohio State after winning a national title as a potential starter, but the true freshman rising star proved to be way ahead of schedule and had the job locked down from the moment he was announced the starter.
Brown could potentially return to Cal if he can’t find a good landing spot.
If Brown decides not to come back, with EJ Caminong in the portal as well, it’ll be a new depth chart in Strawberry Canyon behind Sagapolutele. 2026 QB commit Nainoa Lopes and JUCO transfer Dominic Ingrassia are now the primary QB2/QB3.
There are more transfer portal updates below:
You can expect Cal to look for a transfer portal quarterback in this cycle for depth purposes, but not likely any of the top targets, as the starter is pretty well-established.

Ferrelli to the portal.
Sigh.
Looks llike we're creating cap space by letting low yield veterans walk.
