Texas Tech transfer guard Jaylon Tyson visits Cal, Kansas and Auburn up next
The California Golden Bears might have eyes on a third impact portal player.
Cal has already gotten two commitments in the portal to start off the Mark Madsen era. Two are pictured above.
The third is Aimaq’s teammate in Lubbock, Texas Tech guard Jaylon Tyson. Tyson entered the portal earlier this week. This picture was taken this weekend. Numerous reports indicate that Tyson is in Berkeley.
Tyson averaged 10.7 points, 6.1 rebounds, 1.4 steals and 1.3 assists in 31 games played this past season. He’s a rim-runner, can hit transition threes, defend on the perimeter.
New Cal assistant Matt Scherbenske is also a connection, as he previously coached Aimaq and Tyson at Texas Tech last season.
Tyson has pretty huge visits coming up with Kansas and Auburn. While Cal can probably offer significant benefits like playing time, there are obviously huge benefits with going with a more established program. But with the internal connections Cal has to feel pretty good about their chances.
This might have some nice potential -- those guys above seem solid. Then add them with Askew, Celestine and Newell. Sounds like a core the Mad Dog can work with.
247 Crystal Ball has him transferring to Cal at 100%. It's been wrong before but that's pretty cool. He's a baller and would be a great addition.
Nothing can compare to the feeling of Jaylen Brown committing to Cal but I'm feeling a bit of that tingle of hope. There's a chance that we won't just be better this year. We may actually be good.
