2025 DL commit Mays Pese flips from Cal to Arizona
The California Golden Bears have now seen a few of their original commits end up in Tucson with the Wildcats.
Prep recruiting continues to get more competitive, as Cal has lost yet another 2025 commit. Defensive line prospect Mays Pese (who only committed a few weeks ago) flipped his commitment to Arizona.
This is the second decommitment from Cal to Arizona in as many months. Original quarterback commit Robert McDaniel also ended up with the Wildcats after a brief reopening of his recruitment.
It seems like new Arizona head coach Brent Brennan is proving to be a formidable force for recruiting California prospects. This makes sense given his many years at San Jose State and having to recruit all across the state of California.
High school recruiting can sometimes be a fickle game. You never know what might excite a player to come to your program one day and what might get them even more pumped after their announcement. And it is a very free environment, as nothing is set in stone until the letter of intent is sent in.
Tough break, but there is still plenty of time in the cycle for the Bears to find replacements at both defensive line and quarterback.
(Dad joke alert) I guess we’re were one Bear down.
It's going to happen. For the longest time teams have been able to out recruit Cal.. However, this particular version of Cal's recruiting staff has been formidable across the country.
Our focus has been the transfer portal. But at some point in time we're gonna have to shift to the local kids because that is the foundation. You need kids that are gonna grow with your program over four years. I'm not saying that California has done anything wrong because they needed every single recruit that they have to compete. I'm saying now. There should be more attention given to the local kids especially the ones that live in california and double especially if they're from the bay area. All of the local three star kids from the bay area need to be at Cal.
