Trond Grizzell will return to Cal for his fifth season
The California Golden Bears get a welcome return from a potential starting wide receiver.
Trond Grizzell had one of the funnier sagas on announcing his return to Cal.
A few Cal burner accounts have taken it upon themselves to play insider and try and break news. One of them (who claimed to “break” the Devin Brown to Cal story) outkicked their coverage and break a story on Trond Grizzell’s situation.
Grizzell, who has not tweeted in two years, logged on and posted this quick response.
After a very solid 2023 breakthrough campaign, Grizzell had trouble breaking into a crowded wideout rotation in 2024, grabbing 27 catches for 401 yards (after hauling in 39 receptions the year prior). But his one touchdown from Fernando Mendoza in the 2024 Big Game was critical in getting the Bears back into the game, he had a great five catch, 95 yard Oregon State game, and he had important catches against Wake Forest, Pitt, Miami and Florida State.
Grizzell’s return will be critical for a rotation that has lost Nyziah Hunter (Nebraska), Josiah Martin (Oklahoma) and Mikey Matthews (UCLA). The Bears will return Tobias Merriweather, Mavin Anderson, Kyion Grayes, Mason Starling, Trevor Rogers, Jaiven Plummer and Jordan King, while adding Jacob De Jesus and Dazmin James. New wideouts coach Kyle Cefalo will have a full deck to play with next season, and Grizzell will have a great opportunity to excel.
One of the great ursine-adjacent names! I was surprised he didn't have a bigger 2024 since he and Nando were so locked in the year prior. Wishing him a monster season.
Love this kid! He had a great break out year in 2023 and his experience will be a huge asset with the new QB's.
