Cal 2025 RB commit Jojo Solis reopens recruitment
The California Golden Bears might need to look for another running back.
Recruiting is only getting wilder. Cal has seen three decommitments in 2025, all from the premium positions of QB and RB.
Jojo Solis announced his decommitment from Cal Wednesday. Solis was the first commitment in the 2025 class, signing up with the Bears all the way back in 2022.
Cal had two early running back commits from Solis and Carter Jackson, but both have ended up decommitting. It’s definitely a push and pull with early commits, as there will be a lot of reassessments on both sides in the years leading up to Signing Day.
Cal does still have one running back commit for 2025, as they did land a commitment from Anthony League last month. And Aristotle Thompson has continued to stack up the transfer portal with RB transfers like Kadarius Calloway.
In terms of new running backs, Mandeville (La.) RB Nate Sheppard visited Cal a few weeks ago, is nearing a decision, and it seems as if Duke is the major competition. If Sheppard joins the Bears, Cal will have their two running backs.
The Bears have also shown interest in Lake Stevens (Wa.) athlete Jayshon Limar (with serious competition from Notre Dame, Stanford and Oregon), who unofficially visited Berkeley two months ago. Cal also offered Abilene (Tx) RB Daniel Bray earlier this spring.
Such a shame. Solis was the top recruit I was looking forward to watching.
Cal's running back room is extremely deep. It is also full of quality running backs and one of them is a preseason all american. Sometimes you can be too successful at recruiting and this is simply the side effect. I wish him the best.
