2024 PG Justin Pippen to announce commitment Friday, Cal in top 5
Cal, Stanford, Georgia Tech, Michigan and Texas A&M are the schools in contention.
There has been some late buzz that the California Golden Bears would be in the mix for the son of Scottie Pippen, and Justin Pippen made the announcement this week that the Bears would be one of his final five choices to pick from.
Pippen had flown under the radar in his final season, but a senior season growth spurt sprouted the Sierra Canyon guard into the top 100 prospects of this 2024 cycle. Like his old man, Pippen has those long arms suited for defense, and also proves to be a solid ball-handler who can finish, averaging 16.5 points, 4.9 assists, and 4.5 rebounds per game last year.
The programs in contention include the California Golden Bears, Stanford Cardinal, Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, Michigan Wolverines and Texas A&M Aggies. Michigan seems to be getting the early buzz for Pippen, and are probably the favorites to be picked, but a Cal surprise could certainly jumpstart Mark Madsen’s 2024 spring rebuild into high gear.
And if Pippen picks Michigan, that could mean St. Mary’s transfer Aiden Mahaney gets more interested in staying local with Cal. Or maybe UTSA transfer Christian Tucker gets enticed. Or San Jose State transfer Myron Amey picks Cal out of his top 4. Or Norfolk State point Jamarii Thomas finalizes his visit.
Lots of point guards are interested in Cal!
I’m glad to see us in the mix with a bunch of these bigger names. It’s a good sign for the program.
ESPN reports he’s going to Michigan.
