Cal lands the commitment of Seattle athlete Rahshawn Clark
The California Golden Bears Bears have landed one of their highest ranked prospects of the 2024 class.
After a slow start to the 2024 recruiting class, the Bears seem to be kicking into high gear as summer kicks off. Cal has picked up a major commitment from Rahshawn Clark, becoming their highest-rated prospect so far. Cal made the top six along with Oregon, Oregon State, Louisville, Michigan State and Washington and Clark made his announcement for the Bears.
Clark is ranked on 247Sports as a four-star prospect with the 27th best athlete and the 7th best Washington prospect. 247Sports Composite places him as the 56th best athlete in the nation and the 9th best Washington recruit. Clark holds offers from eight Pac-12 schools (Oregons, Washingtons, Arizona, Colorado, Utah), as well as Louisville, Michigan State, Georgia Tech and Mississippi State.
Here’s the scouting report on Clark from Brandon Huffman of 247Sports.
Clark is one of the top two-way prospects in the state regardless of class. He has Power 5 offers for both cornerback and for receiver. He's rated as an athlete and while we think he's got more upside on defense, his heart is on offense. Whichever side of the ball he ends up playing, he will impact the game. He's also a good returner, a player who can use his speed and vision to break off long returns. As a receiver, he's a natural pass catcher and probably projects best inside as a slot but could split out wide too depending on the offense. Defensively, he has some of the best ball skills of any defender in the class and plays with a nice, physical edge to him, not afraid to initiate contact at all.
Here’s Clark below in performance training (Hudl highlights are available here).
Clark’s main recruiters are Tre Watson and Terrence Brown, so you’d imagine they have eyes on putting Clark in their defensive backfield. Clark will definitely do his best to take on the mantle of being the next great Taker.
Cal now has ten commits in its class and has landed the following commits in the past few weeks alongside Clark:
Quarterback E.J. Caminong, Clark’s teammate at Garfield
Welcome to Cal Rahshawn! Go Bears!
Tangibles: 6'0 189 lbs. Sturdy, athletic build. Some S&C should help him lean up and improve composition.
Hands: hard to tell, but it looks like he's got nearly a 9" hand, which is fine
40 yards: 4.65 hand-timed start, laser timed end. It's fine, but not a burner. Then again, he's not build like an outside receiver that you send deep, so it's not a relevant measure
4.35 shuttle: hand timed start and finish. This is the metric that matters. Not elite, but very quick. He'll be plenty quick for all but the elite opposition.
34.5 vertical. Very very good. Kid has hops.
8'9" broad jump. Meh.
Bench reps (225): 5. It's fine. He's a WR/DB.
Love it. Dude looks like the next SYD'QUAN!!!
