Cal football lands a commitment from OL Ben Howard

The California Golden Bears are stacking up well with their offensive line depth in the short-term and long-term.

Two days, two California Golden Big Bears.

After getting a portal commitment from Coastal Carolina OL Will McDonald, Cal gets a 2025 commit from Ben Howard from Lehi, Utah. Cal beat out Arizona, Arizona State, Iowa State and Penn State for the interior offensive lineman’s commitment.

McDonald really enjoyed his visit to Cal this weekend, citing the coaches and the culture as big influences in his eventual commitment to the Bears. Blair Angulo of 247Sports has more.

"Cal made me feel like family on this latest recruiting trip," Howard said. "The environment was incredible. And I felt like that was my home as soon as I got there! They have an awesome coaching staff and I would not mind playing for coach Mike Bloesch at all.

"I'm very excited. Seeing their offensive line development is incredible. Throughout the whole trip just hearing what they thought about me was awesome. They really see me being an incredible offensive lineman for them and I'm ready to show them what I can do."

In his Hudl highlights, you can see Howard’s agility in his footwork, with a great motor to boot. Players listed at 6-3 and 320 aren’t usually able to move that quickly, and Howard is motoring right along with ease The run blocking is evident, as he plows through some pretty big kids from the greater Salt Lake City area. Blessed with an 80 inch wingspan according to Greg Biggins, Howard has the prototypical frame to evolve into a really solid offensive guard.

Howard is the sixth commit of the 2025 recruiting class, joining quarterback Robert McDaniel, running back Jojo Solis, linebacker Carter Jones, cornerback Kaden Cook and tight end/wide receiver Meyer Swinney.
