Cal lands a huge offensive lineman transfer in Will McDonald
The California Golden Bears might have their deepest offensive line in some time.
The California Golden Bears have had a very active transfer portal period. They have landed another top target in Coastal Carolina offensive guard Will McDonald after his visit to Berkeley.
A graduate transfer from the Chanticleers with 26 starts (including all 13 in 2023), the 6-2, 295 offensive guard will increase the competition on the inside. McDonald joins Bastian Swinney, Sioape Vatikani, Victor Stoffel and Matthew Wykoff in the interior line competition, and he has bona fides that could put him right in the mix. McDonald was an excellent pass blocker in the Sun Belt, allowing 9 rushes on around 400 pass blocking plays in 2023 (according to PFF+).
Cal now has landed four transfer offensive linemen in the 2024 period. Victor Stoffel (Temple) and Rush Reimer (Montana State) came in during the winter period, and Braden Miller (Michigan State) joined in last month. This replaces the losses of Martin Tine, Ender Aguilar, Everett Johnson (to Montana) and Brayden Rhome (to UMass) to the portal.
It figures to be one of the deepest and most competitive offensive line battles in quite some time for Cal this fall. It’s a year for the hogs!
The trenches is where games are won and lost.
It's been a long time since Cal has had Offensive lineman.this good. I hope this new guy is very versatile and can play multiple Positions along the O-line in case of injuries.
If these guys are as good as advertised, our running game will be a beast. The ACC thought they were getting a patsy. We will be tough in the ACC.
