Cal Football Assistant Defensive Line Coach Eddy McGilvra Has Impressive NFL Experience
The California Golden Bears are getting a private coach of some of the best defensive line talents out there.
One under-the-radar hire Tosh Lupoi made could be an ace in the hole. Assistant defensive line coach Eddy McGilvra comes to the Bears via Sacramento State, where the Hornets finished sixth in the FCS in sacks. Previously, his defense at College of the Canyons as co-defensive coordinator ranked first in sacks, tackles for loss, turnovers, and scoring defense.
McGilvra has also served as a private defensive line coach with NFL clients like Laiatu Latu, Mason Graham and Jared Verse. Other clients include Khalil Mack, Quinnen Williams, Kenny Clark, Kwity Paye, John Franklin-Myers, Jaelen Phillips, Sebastian Joseph Day, Teair Tart, Kobie Turner and Naquan Jones. Clearly McGilvra has earned the reps as a top technician who can get players to perform at their best.
You might even recognize this former California Golden Bear.
McGilvra provides a technical acumen that will be helpful as Darrion Daniels figures to spend a lot of time on the road as the top defensive line recruiter (and also new edges coach Bryan Barraza will also be around to assist). Cal seems to be aiming for balance at most positions as they take advantage of the new world of unlimited staffers, so recruiting, gameplanning and development are all happening concurrently.
