Geoff McArthur Returns To Cal Football As Assistant Wide Receivers Coach
The California Golden Bear legend will be back on the sidelines in Berkeley next fall.
The California Golden Bears are hiring a host of new assistants. The one familiar to all of them is Geoff McArthur, the new assistant wide receivers coach. McArthur played with Tosh Lupoi at Cal and was his roommate during the heyday of Cal football, and now they get to team up in Berkeley.
Two decades after leaving Berkeley, McArthur still remains Calโs all-time leader with 3,188 receiving yards, and is second with 202 career receptions and seventh at Cal with 20 touchdown catches. The favorite target of Aaron Rodgers for two years, McArthur was named a Second-Team All-American as a junior in 2003 and was also chosen second-team All-Pac-10, the teamโs Most Improved Player, and the Bay Area Sports Hall of Fameโs College Male Athlete of the Year. McArthur continues to hold Calโs season receiving yards mark with 1,504 in 2003.
A first-team All-Pac-10 selection as a senior, he led the team in receptions with 57, along with 862 receiving yards and seven touchdown receptions. He shares the Cal single-game record for 16 receptions (Jacob De Jesus) and is second in receiving yards after tallying 245 yards in the 2003 Big Game.
McArthur was most recently at St. John Bosco at Bellflower for the least few years as a WR coach, and coached at Lindenwood in the Ohio Valley. He also was the head coach and founder at Canada Prep Academy from 2013-18 to help prepare students in Ontario for college admission, coached at St. Monica Catholic High for 2019-22, and served as a wide receivers coach for El Camino College.
McArthur is also in remission from non-Hodgkin diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, a treatable cancer with a 64% chance of a 5-year relative survival rate. His remarkable story has brought him back home. Itโs exciting to see him.
