Cal football transfer portal targets: Early 2025 confirmed visits
The California Golden Bears are finding potential transfers at positions of need to start the new year.
Happy New Year Cal fans!
Steve Wiltfong of On3 reports on Wagner offensive tackle Brandon Sneh taking a trip to Berkeley:
Per his agents Darren Wilson and Chase Moss, the 6-foot-7 1/2, 320-pound Sneh will visit Colorado, Kansas State and California next week. Sneh has already taken official visits to Marshall and East Carolina. He has two years of eligibility remaining.
The Portal Report also indicates visits to Illinois and Houston are on the horizon. Sneh measures in at 6’7-1/2 and 320 pounds, with an 84-inch wingspan and an 80+ PFF pass grade.
Four offensive linemen have already been landed in the transfer portal: Tyson Ruffins (via Nevada), Lajuan Owens (via New Mexico), Leon Bell (via Mississippi State) and Lamar Robinson (via Georgia State).
Pete Thamel of the New York Times reports that Baylor safety Corey Gordon Jr. is visiting Cal this week, on the heels of a trip to Alabama. Gordon Jr led Baylor with three interceptions in 2024, started seven games the last two years, notching 64 career tackles. He’ll have two years of eligibility remaining.
Cal has already landed three defensive backs in this cycle, with Tristan Dunn (via Washington), Hezekiah Masses (via Florida International) and Jaden Mickey (via Notre Dame) ready to roll.
Matt Zenitz reports that Texas defensive lineman Justice Finkley will take a trip to Cal this week. Finkley will have one year of eligibility remaining. In his career at Texas, he’s piled up 26 tackles, 3.5 TFLs, 2.5 sacks, and 1 forced fumble.
Cal has already landed one defensive line commit in this cycle from Tyson Ford (via Notre Dame).
Wiltfong and Pete Nakos of On3 also revealed that Northern Illinois wide receiver Cam Thompson is visiting Cal in the coming days. Other visits include Mississippi State, West Virginia, and Iowa. Thompson caught 28 catches for 391 yards and 3 touchdowns in 2024, and was also a team kick returner, taking a 91 yarder to the house. The Bears have yet to get a commitment from a wideout in this cycle, but will have to attend to the losses of Nyziah Hunter, Josiah Martin and Mikey Matthews.
Encouraging list of names. If we have learned nothing else from the college football playoff, it's that football is a game of big meanies and speedy speedsters. Then, motivation! What the hell was that Duck debacle yesterday? How great was that ASU fight, almost toppling vaunted Texas?
