Cal Football Transfer: Kamar Mothudi, Linebacker From Oregon
This is the fourth Oregon Duck to follow Tosh Lupoi and his staff to Berkeley.
The California Golden Bears have found another potential key contributor from the Oregon Ducks, and it’s at a position deeply in need of a talent injection. Linebacker Kamar Mothudi is inbound to Berkeley, following Tosh Lupoi, his former defensive coordinator and new head coach. Mothudi also visited NC State and Purdue this week. A redshirt freshman last year, Mothudi should have three years of eligiblity remaining.
Mothudi played in six regular season games for Oregon, including the first three games of the year. Bryce Boettcher and Jerry Mixon took the majority of middle linebacker snaps at Oregon, which was Mothudi’s recruited position. Mothudi was a top 250 prospect in the 2024 recruiting class, a top 16 linebacker and a top 20 California prospect, according to 247Sports Composite.
Cal has lost their former defensive captain Cade Uluave to BYU, Ryan McCulloch to UCLA, Harrison Taggart remains in the portal, and Luke Ferrelli is busy igniting another round of transfer portal discourse. Getting Mothudi in along with Tristan Jernigan from Texas A&M does provide a significant bit of relief that it won’t be Aaron Hampton by himself needing to hold up the middle of the defense.
This is the fourth Oregon Duck to follow Lupoi to Cal, as Mothudi joins safety Kingston Lopa, defensive tackle Jericho Johnson, and wide receiver Cooper Perry. The Bears are closing out their transfer portal class, and it’s hard not to feel like they’ve fulfilled many of their needs.

We've all been nervous about the linebacker room so were waiting for portal news. This is excellent! Welcome to Cal, Kamar!
He moved from inside to outside LB so can play both. We've signed a number of EDGE guys. Barazza is listed as our EDGE coach, but covered EDGE and OLB so that points to the defensive scheme we're running. I guess anyone with the LB label is projected to play ILB under Coach Gregory.
