Cal football fall camp starts tomorrow with many questions
Two and a half weeks of open practices for the California Golden Bears ahead.
Football is around the corner.
The biggest question lejft to settle is who will start at quarterback. Chandler Rogers and Fernando Mendoza have a big battle ahead. It appeared as if Mendoza had the edge coming out of spring, but Rogers had only just arrived, so it’s hard to say where things will stand by the time fall is done.
There will be plenty of other battles. Who will be the second running back behind Jaydn Ott? Kadarius Calloway had a great spring, Byron Cardwell is back in action, and Jaivian Thomas and Justin Williams-Thomas will both be returning.
Cal has a wide open receiver battle. Transfers Tobias Merriweather, Mikey Matthews, Jonathan Brady and Kyion Grayes are expected to fit right in with Trond Grizzell and Mavin Anderson. Freshmen Josiah Martin and Trevor Rogers have been getting early buzz. And tight ends Jack Endries and Corey Dyches are going to be battling.
There are battles all across the offensive line for tackle between Nick Morrow, Rush Reimer and Victor Stoffel. At guard, expect Will McDonald to battle with Bastian Swinney.
On defense, there's a host of new transfers expected to quickly rise through the two deep as the season goes along.
Along the defensive line come T.J. Bollers off the edge and Aidan Keanaaina upfront.
At linebacker, Teddye Buchanan, Liam Johnson, Serigne Tounkara and Cheikh Fall are in to supplement the depth concerns.
And the secondary was replenished from scratch, with Jasiah Wagoner, Isaiah Crosby, Ja'ir Smith, Marcus Harris and Ryan Yaites all expected to be in the rotation sooner rather than later.
There’s a lot to watch out for! All of the below practices are open at California Memorial Stadium, and should last two to three hours. You’ll have plenty of chances to see it unfold.
